Meet the Staff: Maylene Dosano, Laboratory Technician II
Meet the Staff: Maylene Dosano, Laboratory Technician II: Meet Maylene, a dynamic member of the BSK Associates team, who brings her unique blend of cultural background and professional experience to every aspect of her work. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, Maylene moved to the United States in 2012, where she navigated the challenges of adapting to a new country while excelling in her education. Maylene’s story is a testament to her resilience, adaptability, and passion for making a positive impact, both within her team and in the broader community.
Interviewer: Hi Maylene! Can you tell me a little about where you are from. Where is your hometown and where did you go to school?
Maylene: Yes. I was born in Manila, Philippines. Grew up with the loud noise, traffic, and busy city life. I was raised there and lived there for 17 years alongside my two siblings. My family and I moved to the United States back in 2012 in hopes for a better life and future for all of us. It was a rollercoaster of feelings being in a foreign country, but it made me the person I am today. Since my family moved a lot, I have been to 5 different elementary schools and 3 high schools all of which allowed me to meet so many great people. I finished college at Sacramento City College with an Associate Degree in Mathematics and Engineering (CE) during Covid.
Interviewer: How long have you worked for BSK and what do you do for the organization?
Maylene: I started with BSK in September 2021. I took a shot in applying for a Field Technician position because it was getting difficult to find a job during pandemic. Rather than being picky, I let myself become a sponge and absorb all sorts of information and skills (old and new) and apply it as an opportunity for my professional development. I got assigned to multiple job sites to do client’s routine sampling, special sampling events, and/or emergency samples. After a year or so of great experience, I got promoted to be in the client services department in which I am responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships between BSK and its clients. Part of my duties also includes managing client inquires and sample log in, while also assisting with scheduling sampling events, bottle orders, and promptly directing customer complaints or questions to relevant departments.
Interviewer: What do you enjoy most about your job?
Maylene: What I enjoy the most about my job is working with our amazing team that are always open to collaborating to form better strategies to make things go smoothly for our satellite labs. I love the feeling of knowing that our company is making an impact in our community whether it be a small- or large-scale project. As a CSR (Client Services representative), I love the direct interactions with our clients and building a good rapport with them to establish trust and good business relationships. Lastly, being a part of something that is constantly working with the community, directly and indirectly, and contributing to making our clients happy by helping them complete their projects.
Interviewer: Can you tell us your favorite on the job story?
Maylene: One of my favorites on the job stories actually is something that happens almost every day. As a satellite location we experience a late afternoon rush when all of our field staff come back into the office from the field. This rush is my favorite because that is when I see everyone on our team work together to get the all the samples logged in, labeled, and ready for the lab. Everyone is actively helping each other out and willing to come together to make the day end smoothly. Another thing is when clients go out of their way to show appreciation for the services we provide, it always makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.
Interviewer: Thank you so much for answering all these questions today. Can we leave off by you relaying some fun facts about yourself?
Maylene: Fun fact about myself is that I was a part of a competitive hip-hop dance team for 4 years in college which got me to travel and compete in different places. It was a fun experience, but my back and my body are not cooperating anymore as I age haha! I love to cook any type of dishes (Filipino, Korean, Chinese, Italian, etc.). Lastly, my family and I love to try out different escape rooms in each State that we travel too.
