Peterson Road Improvement Project

Peterson Road Improvement Project

peterson-road-improvement-project

The Peterson Road Improvement Project was located in Auberry, Fresno County, Ca. Following the 2020 Creek Fire, damage to the southwestern slopes adjacent to Peterson Road east of Tollhouse Road were sustained.  Furthermore, it is understood the slope had exhibited minor sloughing in the past. However, after recent fires and increased truck traffic, slopes had exhibited more significant movement.  Curbs along the road edge had moved several inches. Additionally, in three locations radial cracking patterns emanating from the slope edge were visible in the asphalt pavement. The slopes below the roadway were approximately 20 to 40 feet high.  Moreover, previous drainage along the roadway appeared to include diverting water to the shoulders and use of culverts. New retaining walls were designed and planned to be supported on shallow foundations or micro-piles.

Repair of the landslides at the site was under a tight schedule to improve the road before the community could start rebuilding following the Creek Fire. Performing geotechnical investigation, laboratory testing, and preparing the report was completed within 10 business days. BSK is proud to have worked on this project.

The City of Manteca has partnered with Caltrans District 10 and the San Joaquin Council of Governments to improve the traffic flow at the State Route 120 and Union Road Interchange. The project will become the first diverging diamond interchange (DDI) in the State of California and improves safety conditions of the intersection by construction new on and off ramps, widening Union Road, and adding Class I shared use paths and Class II bike lanes.

The DDI configuration is a unique configuration that provides cost savings and safety benefits for vehicles and pedestrians. The system takes local road traffic and shifts it to the left side of the road before being shifted back to the right, reducing conflict points resulting from signals and vehicles while allowing traffic to flow more efficiently through the interchange.

BSK provided Quality Assurance testing materials testing to the Resident Engineer on the entire project to include soils, aggregate base, hot-mix asphalt, and concrete, as well as Source Inspection for structural elements. The Source Inspection scope included prefabricated concrete and steel items, as well as anchorage, reinforcing steel and prestressing tendons.

BSK selected for on-call contract

BSK selected for on-call contract

BSK has provided the City of Fremont with on-call materials testing and special inspection services since 2016. As part of this on-going contract, #BSK has provided support to the City’s annual pavement rehabilitation projects and also directly supplemented the City’s in-house laboratory. Our initial on-call contract with the City expired at the end of 2020 and subsequently the City solicited another on-call contract Request for Qualifications for a period of up to 5 years to which BSK responded and was selected by the City for the new agreement. BSK is thankful to have the opportunity to continue supporting the City of Fremont where typical services include onsite and offsite materials sampling and testing for earthwork, concrete, and hot mix asphalt construction.
