BSK encourages and supports our employee’s volunteer efforts. On August 17-18, several BSK employees and family members were at beautiful Yosemite National Park to support the National Parks Service Yosemite Volunteer-In-Park program. BSK’s volunteer group participated in an invasive plant removal project at the park. The project’s goal is to reduce the quantity of non-native plant species which have a large impact on native plant communities and their associated wildlife. Great way to spend a weekend and help a good cause!

BSK continues to support the Big Picture Learning program, a national alternate method high school. BSK started working with Big Picture Learning about a year and a half ago. Throughout that time, BSK has engaged five interns. One of whom has finished out his internship and is now a part time employee while he is attending a local junior college.
The most recent intern is Noah. BSK interviewed Noah to see if our lab was a good fit, and all interviewers were really impressed by his interests. When BSK first talked with Noah he had a list of questions about BSK including: "Is BSK involved in any international humanitarian efforts and if so where"? Wow what a kid! Noah has the dream to bring water treatment technologies to the third world. He will be working in our lab this semester-and perhaps his experience will provide a stepping stone to realizing his dream.
