On Wednesday, March 5th, BSK was a recipient of a Business Partner Award from the Fresno Compact for our support of Big Picture High School (BPHS) www.fresnocompact.com. Each year, the Compact recognizes ten local businesses which have built exceptional partnerships with schools, contributing time and resources to help students reach their full potential. This year, BSK was one of those 10 recognized. BSK has supported BPHS by offering internships to a number of its students and by supplying guidance, materials and labor to help build a science laboratory for the school.

BSK was a presenter at the Land Conservation Conference held by the California Council of Land Trusts on March 5, 2014 in Sacramento CA. BSK was a panelist on two panels; Real Estate Transactions: the Basics to Special topics, “Form 8283 and Mitigation” and the Appraisers’ Forum. Both dealt with land conservation and the concerns regarding charitable tax deductions from land transfers.

BSK has launched a new groundwater monitoring and water management planning service to help our clients comply with certain provisions of SB 4, California’s new well stimulation permitting law. The service is designed to assist our clients with the requirement to prepare Groundwater Monitoring and Water Management Plans which satisfy key components of this new law.
BSK has served the engineering and water-related needs of municipalities, agriculture and industry throughout Central California for nearly 50 years. Our staff is experienced with California water issues, the various hydrogeologic environments which exist in California, and the numerous regulatory agencies, regulations and processes inherent to water issues in California. In addition BSK has worked with some of the largest petrochemical and natural gas development companies in the country.

BSK will be presenting at one of the California Water Resource Foundations’ 2014 Delta Habitat Workshops on January 29th. The workshop topic will be “Finding Ways to Restore Delta Habitat and Protect Property Owners”. BSK will speak on State Projects and In-Delta Concerns, as part of a panel of experts. BSK has expanded their environmental practice in Northern California by adding three additional team members. Lucinda Calvo, Senior Environmental Permitting Analyst, Vanessa Emerzian, Senior Environmental Scientist and Kevin Grove, Staff Planner have joined the company, and will provide additional environmental permitting & planning, habitat conservation planning, natural resource planning, air and noise modeling, land development regulatory compliance, as well as climate change adaption strategy development.

BSK was awarded a contract by the State of Washington to provide analytical laboratory services to state agencies. The primary purchasers are the Washington State Department of Transportation, Department of Ecology, other state agencies, participating institutions of higher education (colleges and universities) and municipalities within the State of Washington. The contract value is $500,000 for a two year period with renewal options for up to six years. Under this contract BSK will be part of a vendor pool made up of a small number of labs who have been qualified to compete for this work.

BSK helped sponsor the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps (SRCC) 11th Annual Golf Extravaganza "GLOWING FUTURE" event at the Foothill Golf Course in Sacramento on October 3, 2013. The mission of the SRCC is to enrich the lives of young adults by providing a development program integrating education, job skills training and work experience on conservation projects and service opportunities that benefit the region and our corps members. Proceeds from this event, provide transitional scholarships to graduating corps members who are entering the workplace and/or continuing their education. What a Great Cause!

BSK has moved their corporate headquarters and engineering operations to 550 West Locust Avenue, Fresno CA, 93650, effective September 23, 2013. BSK has been headquartered in Fresno since 1966, providing environmental consulting, geotechnical engineering, construction services and analytical testing to clients throughout California, and other Western states. “We needed the additional space at this new location to better serve our expanding client base” says Mike Vartanian, Chief Financial Officer at BSK. This legal support consists of water policy analysis, CEQA and NEPA statutory analysis and strategy, and interpretation of recent court decisions. BSK has expanded their geotechnical engineering practice in the Bay Area by adding three new team members. Brad, Cristiano, and Carrie joined the firm on August 26, and bring over forty-years of geotechnical experience in the energy, commercial, municipality and education markets. Brad, Cristiano, and Carrie will be great additions to the BSK team, and allow BSK to expand service offerings to existing clients, as well as develop new clients in the Northern California Region.

BSK encourages and supports our employee’s volunteer efforts. On August 17-18, several BSK employees and family members were at beautiful Yosemite National Park to support the National Parks Service Yosemite Volunteer-In-Park program. BSK’s volunteer group participated in an invasive plant removal project at the park. The project’s goal is to reduce the quantity of non-native plant species which have a large impact on native plant communities and their associated wildlife. Great way to spend a weekend and help a good cause!

Tony has over 26 years of experience as a Geologist and senior operations manager in the architectural & engineering (A/E) industry. Tony’s technical expertise includes environmental consulting, project management, site assessment, remediation, water resource and CEQA / NEPA related services for the transportation, energy, industrial, water, solid waste and Brownfields market segments. “Tony represents the level of talent which BSK has come to demand and we are thrilled that he has joined our team. Recently, Adam from our Bakersfield Branch was voted in as the new State Director for the Kern County Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies California (ACEC-CA). This is Adam’s second tour as State Director and his first with BSK. Adam will be representing the Kern County Chapter on the Board of Directors for ACEC-CA on issues which concern membership.

BSK was a sponsor and helped organize an annual golf event for The Kylee Lillich Charitable Giving Tree organization on June 7th. The organization is an all-volunteer charity that helps needy, homeless, grieving and hospitalized children year-round (and with a holiday giving tree) with new clothes, new toys, necessities and special wishes. This year’s event was held at the Teal Bend Golf Course in Sacramento.
