BSK Associates (BSK) announced it has signed an agreement to purchase AddyLab (Addy), a Vancouver, WA based analytical testing laboratory. The acquisition of Addy provides additional analytical support for BSK’s expansion into the Pacific Northwest.

BSK is focused on extending our services beyond the California market and this investment affirms our commitment to the region. With their focus on the water market, we believe the addition of Addy was the next logical step in our efforts to grow our business”, said Brad Meadows, Vice President of Laboratory Services at BSK.
Addy Lab, founded by Tom Newman and Carly Addy in 2000, provides water quality testing to the Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington markets. The laboratory is accredited by the Washington State Department of Ecology, and by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. The laboratory will operate as a part of BSK Associates, working in conjunction with the Company’s Fresno-based laboratory to offer a broad range of analytical testing services.

BSK will be presenting May 7th at the Wetland Regulation in California conference to be held in Sacramento. BSK will be giving two presentations. The first; “Large Scale Wetlands Mapping: New Technology and Databases”, will discuss the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Wetlands Inventory, Soil Conservation Service soils database, LiDAR, and evolving state databases and classifications. The second; “Mitigation and Restoration Challenges” will address fundamental restoration challenges in a complex permitting environment.

BSK Associates will be exhibiting at the California Rural Water Association Expo April 30– May 1, 2014 at Harvey’s South Lake Tahoe http://calruralwater.org/p/expo/. This is an annual event for personnel from California’s rural water and wastewater systems. Attendees participate in the Expo to earn educational and training contact hours as well as networking with professions presenting the latest products and services.

BSK will be presenting at the Oregon Water Education Foundation (ORWEF) - Water Environment School in Clackamas, Oregon on March 25. BSK will be speaking on the importance of laboratory ethics and data integrity during laboratory analytical testing. The ORWEF short school is a three-day educational conference attended by over 450 wastewater operators throughout Oregon.

On March 17th, BSK will be a presenter at the Sustainable Pavement Treatments Workshop in Kern County. BSK subject matter specialists will discuss case studies regarding pavement recycling using cold-in-place recycling and full depth reclamation with cement.

On Wednesday, March 5th, BSK was a recipient of a Business Partner Award from the Fresno Compact for our support of Big Picture High School (BPHS) www.fresnocompact.com. Each year, the Compact recognizes ten local businesses which have built exceptional partnerships with schools, contributing time and resources to help students reach their full potential. This year, BSK was one of those 10 recognized. BSK has supported BPHS by offering internships to a number of its students and by supplying guidance, materials and labor to help build a science laboratory for the school.

BSK was a presenter at the Land Conservation Conference held by the California Council of Land Trusts on March 5, 2014 in Sacramento CA. BSK was a panelist on two panels; Real Estate Transactions: the Basics to Special topics, “Form 8283 and Mitigation” and the Appraisers’ Forum. Both dealt with land conservation and the concerns regarding charitable tax deductions from land transfers.

BSK has launched a new groundwater monitoring and water management planning service to help our clients comply with certain provisions of SB 4, California’s new well stimulation permitting law. The service is designed to assist our clients with the requirement to prepare Groundwater Monitoring and Water Management Plans which satisfy key components of this new law.
BSK has served the engineering and water-related needs of municipalities, agriculture and industry throughout Central California for nearly 50 years. Our staff is experienced with California water issues, the various hydrogeologic environments which exist in California, and the numerous regulatory agencies, regulations and processes inherent to water issues in California. In addition BSK has worked with some of the largest petrochemical and natural gas development companies in the country.

BSK will be presenting at one of the California Water Resource Foundations’ 2014 Delta Habitat Workshops on January 29th. The workshop topic will be “Finding Ways to Restore Delta Habitat and Protect Property Owners”. BSK will speak on State Projects and In-Delta Concerns, as part of a panel of experts. BSK has expanded their environmental practice in Northern California by adding three additional team members. Lucinda Calvo, Senior Environmental Permitting Analyst, Vanessa Emerzian, Senior Environmental Scientist and Kevin Grove, Staff Planner have joined the company, and will provide additional environmental permitting & planning, habitat conservation planning, natural resource planning, air and noise modeling, land development regulatory compliance, as well as climate change adaption strategy development.

BSK was awarded a contract by the State of Washington to provide analytical laboratory services to state agencies. The primary purchasers are the Washington State Department of Transportation, Department of Ecology, other state agencies, participating institutions of higher education (colleges and universities) and municipalities within the State of Washington. The contract value is $500,000 for a two year period with renewal options for up to six years. Under this contract BSK will be part of a vendor pool made up of a small number of labs who have been qualified to compete for this work.

BSK helped sponsor the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps (SRCC) 11th Annual Golf Extravaganza "GLOWING FUTURE" event at the Foothill Golf Course in Sacramento on October 3, 2013. The mission of the SRCC is to enrich the lives of young adults by providing a development program integrating education, job skills training and work experience on conservation projects and service opportunities that benefit the region and our corps members. Proceeds from this event, provide transitional scholarships to graduating corps members who are entering the workplace and/or continuing their education. What a Great Cause!
